For rowing clubs on CrewLAB

A club website that gets new rowers signed up.

Your registration, payments and waivers already live in CrewLAB. The website is the front door: it has to look like a real club and get a parent or a first-time rower to the right signup. I build that, at a fixed price, and the club owns it.

From $1,000, or $750 through a partner.

Came from a partner? Mention it on the call.

Sound familiar?

  • You moved to CrewLAB, and the website still sends people to the old system.
  • The volunteer who built the site left the board, and nobody has the login.
  • A parent couldn't work out how to sign up, so they emailed the coach.
  • Learn-to-row season or your home regatta is coming, and the site still shows last year.
  • Someone at every board meeting says "we should really fix the website."

None of that is a CrewLAB problem. CrewLAB handles the club once someone is in. The website is what gets them in.

What a club site is for

Three jobs, done well.

Looks like a real club

To a nervous parent, or a 45-year-old wondering if learn-to-row is for them. First impressions happen on the website, long before the boathouse.

Answers "how do I join?"

For someone who has never rowed. Each program in a line, where and when you train, and one button per program straight into its CrewLAB signup.

Easy for the next volunteer

Built so whoever takes over can change a date or a coach without calling anyone. Or I do it for you on Club Care.

The one rule

CrewLAB stays in charge.

Registration, payments, waivers and rosters stay in CrewLAB, or whichever platform your club already uses. The website links to it or embeds it. It never rebuilds it. So there are no member areas or logins on the site, and nothing new for your members to learn.

Is this for your club?

A good fit

  • A rowing club, roughly 40 to 120 athletes: masters, juniors, learn-to-row
  • Run by an executive director or a volunteer board, with nobody technical
  • On CrewLAB already, or moving to it
  • You'd rather pay once for a proper site than keep patching an old one

Probably not

  • You want registration, logins or payments built into the website. That's CrewLAB's job.
  • Someone on your board enjoys running your Squarespace site. Keep it.
  • You need it live in days with no text, photos or logo ready

Who builds it

I've sat in your seat.

I helped build CrewLAB from zero and flew around the country onboarding clubs onto it, so I know what lives in CrewLAB and what the website has to do around it. I also spent three years as treasurer of FOUR, the board behind UCLA men's rowing. I know what it's like when the website is one more thing on a volunteer's list.

Recent builds: Sets for Sustenance (an event site, built against a hard date), Print & Data, Essence of Health.

Three packages, fixed prices

50% to start, 50% at launch. Come to me directly and you pay the list price. Come through a partner I work with, like CrewLAB, and you pay the partner price.

Start small if you like. A Club Landing Page can move up to a Club Site later, and what you paid for the landing page counts toward it.

How it works

  1. 01

    A free Show & Tell

25 minutes. Show me what the club has now, or the lack of it. I'll tell you which package fits, or whether you need one at all.

  2. 02

    You send the assets

Text for each page (rough is fine, I polish it), photos, logo files, domain access and your CrewLAB registration links. The clock starts when they're in, not when you pay the deposit.

  3. 03

I build, you review, it goes live

50% to start, 50% at launch. Then a 30-minute walkthrough for whoever will keep it updated.

Included

  • Design in your club's colors and logo
  • The pages in your package
  • CrewLAB links on every program
  • Mobile layout
  • Hooking up your domain
  • Launch, and a 30-minute walkthrough

Not included

  • Copywriting (an add-on)
  • Photography
  • Logo or brand design
  • Setting up CrewLAB
  • Newsletters
  • Updates after launch (that's Club Care)

Revision rounds cover changes to the pages we agreed on. A new page or feature is a change order, priced before I start it.

Add-ons

Club Care

$50/month

Hosting, SSL, uptime checks, and up to 30 minutes of small edits a month, like event dates or a new coach. Your club owns the domain and the code either way.

Extra page

$150

Copywriting for the whole site

$300

Extra revision round

$150

Copywriting is done from a 30-minute call with whoever knows the club best.

Questions clubs ask

Why not just use Squarespace?
If someone on your board has the time and likes doing it, do that. Clubs usually call when that person has moved on, or when the site has drifted out of date with the club. You get a site built for the one job a club site has, and you still own it.
We're not on CrewLAB.
The site works the same way with whatever platform runs your registration and payments: it links to it or embeds it. The partner price applies when you come through a partner.
We're not a rowing club.
Other small sport clubs fit just as well if they run the same way: a volunteer board or a small staff, and a platform that already handles the signups.
Who owns it?
The club. The domain and the code are yours whether or not you keep Club Care.
What does the partner price mean?
Clubs that come to me through a partner I work with, like CrewLAB, pay the partner price. Clubs that come directly pay the list price. Same site, same scope.
