Nourished by Mama Earth, the brand we built together

I met Bianca through the same wellness community a lot of good things have come out of: MeditationSocial, MUD\WTR, Joseph's orbit. She was starting her first real business, a line of plant-based wellness elixirs made by hand in Los Angeles. She had the product, the vision, and a real creative sense for how it should feel. What she didn't have yet was a way to get that out of her head and into a brand everyone else could see, starting with what to even call it.

From "Heal Better" to Nourished by Mama Earth

When we started, the working name was Heal Better. It was fine. It wasn't her. Part of the brand work was sitting in that gap and refusing to settle, pushing past the placeholder until we landed on something that actually carried her: the nurturing, hand-made, earth-first spirit of the whole thing. That became Nourished by Mama Earth. The name is the clearest example of what this project really was. Not decorating a business, but helping a founder find the truest version of hers and make it real.

Enabling her creativity, not overriding it

That is the heart of how this one went. A first-time founder with a strong creative instinct doesn't need a designer to hand her a look. She needs someone to work with her until the name, the look, and the feel all match what she already feels about her product. So that's what we did: back and forth on name, palette, type, and tone until it clicked, me bringing the craft and the tools, Bianca bringing the taste and the vision. My job was to enable her creativity, not override it with mine.

What came out was a whole brand world: an earth-toned palette, warm editorial type, an identity that tastes the way the product does. Not a template with a logo dropped on top. Her vision, made real.

Why I did it as a gift

I built this one as a gift. Partly because I believed in her, partly because it was my first time designing for a physical product and I wanted the reps. But mostly for a reason that sits under a lot of how I work: I would rather build up the community I'm part of and trust that it flows back than transact my way through it. You do good work for people you believe in, the whole network gets stronger, and it comes back in ways you can't line-item in advance.

With Bianca it came back fast. She started sending people my way before her own site had even launched. That is the return on generosity in a real community. You can't chart the path it takes, but the energy you put in doesn't disappear.

You know what your business feels like. The best version of my job isn't telling you what it should look like. It's working with you until everyone else feels it too, name and all.
